A Light Bulb Moment With The Atlanta Home Inspector

The Atlanta Home Inspector likes to conserve energy.  One way the inspector in Atlanta, Ga conserves is with   Energy Star products. Energy Star has become a common term within our everyday language. What exactly does Energy Star mean and how does it apply to not only the Atlanta Home Inspector, but also to each of us?

Bear in mind, this is not a picture of an Energy Efficient Light Bulb!!

The Environmental Protection Agency has spent research time and money to determine what products will conserve energy and reduce climate change emissions. When a product passes all of the requirements set forth by the EPA, it earns the rank of Energy Star. The rank applies to various appliances and everyday household products.

For the purpose of this blog, we will focus on the light bulb.  According to energystar.gov if every home replaced just one lightbulb with an Energy Star light bulb, enough energy would be conserved to provide light to 3 million homes for an entire year.  In your own home a qualified lightbulb can a) produce less heat, which makes it safer  b) outlast incandescent bulbs by up to 6 times longer c) save on energy bills.

So how do you decide what to buy? The best advice is to research retailers to find out what they sell. Also determine where you wish to replace the light bulbs and for what purpose. There are different colors and purposes for each bulb. It is good to know what you need before heading to the store.

There are tax credits for Energy Star appliances. Some lightbulbs are not covered, but some are. Research to find out what can be applied at tax time.

Low wattage is one of the simplest variable you can uaen no matter what type of bulb you use.

Looks like you got a 'bright idea' there guys. I like how the socket and bulb just 'hang there'.

the best energy saver is shown right there, it's turned off.

David & Bonnie, pretty simple stuff, you can save money by replacing your light bulb(s) with more efficient ones. I got 2 LED bulbs for Christmas, I never thought I could get excited about receiving a light bulb for a present. Thanks for informative article.
